Bad Goodwill

I feel like I’ve had a terrible fight with my best friend!

If you’ve been around these parts for more than 2 seconds you know that Goodwill is(was) my unofficial best friend…………………… or maybe my official best friend since I see more of Goodwill. I think all of that shall soon change.

It pains me to write this post, but I have to know

Has anyone else noticed a HUGE jump in Goodwill prices?

I was shopping Goodwill today and could not find a shirt under $7-$8! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Eight Dollars for a USED shirt when I can get a new one for that? I picked up a plain white button up shirt with ARM PIT STAINS and several RIPS can you guess the price? Yep, $7. There is something terribly wrong with that, and it isn’t only one Goodwill that I’ve noticed this at.

I used to adore Goodwill shopping, though I have to admit my opinion has gone downhill and I do believe I will be finding a new best friend.

Please let me know if you’ve had the same experience.

I understand! I have had major issues with both Goodwill and Salvation Army in my areas having their items for very high prices.

Instead of shopping these places, I've turned to smaller, local thrift/used stores.

I am going to start doing the same thing. I used to both donate A LOT and shop a lot at Goodwill but no more. I thought Salvation Army and Goodwill used to be a place where people in need could find clothes but the prices are crazy. I overheard a lady talking about how much the CEO made at Goodwill which also made me not EVER EVER EVER want to shop there again and makes me disgusted that I ever donated anything to there.

I've noticed unreasonable prices at the Goodwill in a nearby town, but so far our local Goodwill seems ok still. And unfortunately, the CEO pay you're talking about is pretty common at many (dare I say "most"?) charities. They always pay themselves first (hiding pay in "overhead" of course) and then whatever is left over is what is actually spent on the cause.

YYYyyuuup! I LOVE shopping Goodwill but I walk away with less and less because of the ridiculous asking price! Unless it's a 50% off tag it's insane! A wall hanging for $15?! As you pointed out - shirts for $7 or $8! Shoes for $10! I think NOT thanks. If I can't buy it brand new at those prices, I can get awfully close and if we're talking about a couple of dollars difference between used and new, then I go with the new.

It's very obnoxious, I think. And I can't see that they have a very good excuse.

The good will in my area always had 50 percent off sales on furniture but that cut out so I stopped going as much as I used to. If i do happen to run in there its for a nick nacks which typically arent that expensive...The upside is that Ive gone in so much that the employees know me and they know my style so they often cut me deals under the table if I really want something Im sure that you may be able to do the same if you've formed some type of "relationship" with the workers. It is ridiculous though... Can't be as bad as the salvation Army O M G now you want to talk about OUTRAGEOUS! I've the best places to shop are local thrift stores they are the only ones that get it! I dont even donate my stuff to goodwill or salvation army anymore. For what? To go in next week and see it on the rack for more than its worth. I bag my clothes up and drop them off at the planet donate boxes because I know they pick them up and take them directly to the shelters.

That is so sad that it is the industry norm. I agree, nothing there is really worth it unless it is the 50% off tag, but I'm cursed with the bad luck of what I want never being the color of the day.

Between the prices and the poor attitudes of the managers I am officially looking for a new best friend!
