I started out using these for filing
I’ve had this hope chest for years and had considered getting rid of it when it became a gathering place for odds and ends.
You can imagine how happy I was when I discovered it would work PERFECTLY for filing!!
I’m not completely finished with this project since the honey colored wood doesn’t exactly go with my office, so the outside will be getting a cute makeover. I’ll be adding a few additions to the inside for additional office organization just as soon as I find the perfect fit as well.
I’m so much happier and more organized now! I don’t know about you but I feel more in balance when things are organized.
The best part(s) of this project, I was able to recycle something for my needs, it looks so much better than a metal filing cabinet, I could use it in ANY room of the house.

Wow. How lucky you were that the files fit so nicely. I bet it will look great when you get the outside done.
That is a perfect fit! I've been toying with the idea of getting a secretary desk to replace the monster IKEA desk I use currently, but I wouldn't have file storage. That kind of chest could easily double as a coffee table, and I could pare down to a little desk if I had the storage in another piece! Ideas, ideas!
Oh yeah! I love the fact that you would never guess it has filing it in. I could use it in any room of the house and it would look cute!

What a cute way to file! I would love something like that for my endless files! I still have those hideous metal filing cabinets...they WILL be gettting spray painted though, so that's something, right? :) Way to make the most of your space!

Yep. You could also put in a rail of wood along the side for it also.
I no longer keep anything on paper.. thats right..(well, the title of my car and house is another story) with the new memory sticks I scan an important paper and file it on my memory!... No filing for me!! But your idea is nice!

Wonderful idea! We actually have a hope chest sitting in my craftroom/ office (full of fabric).... I may be finding a new use for it since we've been looking for a new filing system! I love it!
That is a great idea! I have two hope chests - my mother's and my aunt's. I could certainly alter one for office use and let go of the green, brown, and orange afghan :)
This is so simple - and yet so brilliant!! We need more file storage at our house (would allow us to ditch my husband's ugly computer desk), and we can always use more seating. Why not a bench seat hope chest filing cabinet? Thanks for sharing your idea!!

Love it! We have an old hope chest that is currently being used for blanket storage, but I think filing all the papers covering my desk would be a MUCH better solution - thanks!

It looks great. I would paint it black, do a crackle job on it and go over it in white.--Personally so it looks like a great piece of furniture in your office.
